Last week’s best Miami-Dade performances


The Southwest volleyball team placed fourth at the Orlando Showcase tournament, competing in the Premier Bracket and going 3-0, losing only to defending Class 8A state champion Winter Park. For five matches, Sheyanne Sullivan finished with 60 kills and 45 digs, Sheila Rojas had 99 digs and 91 receptions, and Jocelyn Garcia totaled 30 kills and 18 blocks.


Gianni McCrea, Ferguson, football: McCrea ran for 134 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Falcons to a 21-6 win against Braddock.

Simino Walden, Hialeah-Miami Lakes, football: Walden returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and later caught a touchdown pass to help the Trojans beat rival Hialeah 34-0.

Ashley Reid, Killian, girls’ volleyball: Reid had 12 kills and five digs to lead the Cougars to a win over Montverde Academy and the Gold Division title at the Winter Park Tournament.

Adrian Moya, Doral, boys’ swimming: Moya won the 200 free and 100 breast to lead the Firebirds to a tri-meet win against SLAM and La Salle.

Rachel Peraza, Lourdes, girls’ swimming: Peraza won the 200 free and 100 butterfly to lead the Bobcats to a win against Archimedean.

Ryan Rodriguez, Belen, boys’ cross-country: Rodriguez placed first at the Pine Crest Invitational.

Rachael Osman, Coral Reef, girls’ cross-country: Osman ran a time of 20:24 for a top-20 finish at the Katie Caples Invitational in Jacksonville.

Jake Beber-Frankel, Ransom Everglades, boys’ golf: Beber-Frankel shot a 35 to lead the Raiders to a win against Palmer Trinity.

Tanya Eathakotti, Carrollton, girls’ golf: Eathakotti shot a 37 to lead the Cyclones to a win against Palmetto.

Alex Yaniz, Miami Christian, boys’ bowling: Yaniz bowled a 729 high series to lead the Victors over Coral Gables.

Kristi Perlberg, TERRA, girls’ bowling: Perlberg bowled a high series of 485 to lead the Wolves over Killian.
