Elite players will each try to make point at Kreul Classic

That “who is the best point guard?” debate heats up at the Kreul Classic on Friday when Cardinal Gibbons’ Jose Morales, Pines Charter’s Haanif Cheatham, Dillard’s Michael Green, Sagemont’s Keyshawn Evans, Blanche Ely’s LaQuincy Rideau and Miami Christian’s Dylan Frye — elite floor generals — will make their case.

Morales, who is having a career season (19 ppg, 11.4 apg, 4.6 spg) for the Class5A No.1 Chiefs (9-0), and Green are as good as it gets advancing the ball upcourt, while Cheatham — a Marquette signee — brings the skill package of a 6-5 playmaker.

Morales, a Princeton commit, will take a vastly different approach defending his Puerto Rico U-17 teammate Cheatham in a Rock Challenge matchup on Friday and Evans, an Illinois State signee and 2013-14 Class5A State Final Four MVP, on Saturday.

“Haanif is more of a silky-smooth kind of guy who wants to drive to the basket,” Morales said. “Keyshawn, on the other hand, is quicker than people think and can pull up from ridiculously deep. We all respect each other, but we are all competitive. It will be fun to see who will be the top point guard out there.”

Rideau leads Class7A No.1 Ely (9-0) against Bishop Kenny in the Power96 Challenge on Friday. Green, meanwhile, should be a handful for Jacksonville Ed White in the Silver Anniversary bracket.
