TEAM OF THE WEEK

Behind Julia Matzat (75), Christen Simons (76) and Brooke Benedetto (76) the Archbishop McCarthy girls’ golf team erased a 10-stroke deficit against state power American Heritage to win its first Class 2A state title.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Patrick Sastre, Westminster Academy, boys’ cross-country: Sastre (17:57) finished third to help the Lions win the Region 4-1A team title.

Brooke Wierda, Cypress Bay, girls’ volleyball: Wierda had 35 digs to lead the Lightning over Monarch in the Region 8A quarterfinals.

Jaxson Kincaide, St. Thomas Aquinas, football: Kincaide scored two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the second quarter as Aquinas beat Blanche Ely 37-13 for the District 14-7A title.

Morgan Meadows, Fort Lauderdale, girls’ swimming: Meadows won the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle to help the Flying L’s capture the District 11-3A title.

Tyler Strafaci, American Heritage, boys’ golf: Strafaci shot a 1-under-par 143 to win the Class 2A state individual title and lead the Patriots to a runner-up finish.

Kobe Farrish, Deerfield Beach, football: Farrish had two rushing touchdowns as the Bucks (8-1) spoiled Piper’s undefeated regular season with a 38-0 victory for the District 11-8A title.

Danny Ferro, Calvary Christian, boys’ cross-country: Ferro finished third at the Region 4-2A championships.

Alexa Cruz, St. Thomas Aquinas, girls’ cross-country: Cruz finished second at the Region 4-4A championships.

Anthony Sims, Nova, football: Sims rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-17 victory over McArthur, giving the Titans the District 15-7A title, its first since 1995

Daniella Molinari, Cardinal Gibbons, girls’ volleyball: Molinari had 19 kills, five assists, nine digs and six blocks to help the Chiefs erase a two-set deficit and defeat Pine Crest in the Region 4-4A semifinals.
