West Broward tops Cooper City for first football playoff berth

West Broward defeated host Cooper City 23-13 in a crucial District 15-7A matchup to secure the school’s first-ever playoff berth Friday night.

The Bobcats (7-2, 4-1) survived losing starting quarterback Gyree Durante to a gruesome left-ankle injury early in the second quarter. Derrick Wright stepped in for Durante and led the Bobcats as they outscored the Cowboys 23-6 in the second half.

Cooper City (4-5, 3-2) had one last chance down 10 with less than three minutes remaining, but defensive back Corey Sesto intercepted quarterback Michael DiLiello’s pass to seal the win for West Broward.

Top Two

Ahman Bowen: Bowen rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries for the Bobcats.

Tyler Brown: The junior did all he could for the Cowboys, rushing for 81 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.

They Said It
