St. Thomas Aquinas’ Raskin is the 7A-5A Broward Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year
Bianca Raskin was all-too familiar with playing at the state final four.
It’s something she had done each of her three seasons in high school, first at NSU University School and later at St. Thomas Aquinas.
Raskin had never experienced what it was like to be a state champion, however.
That finally changed last month.
Raskin helped Aquinas, the most decorated girls’ soccer program in state history, return to the mountaintop as the Raiders secured their first state championship since 2017 and state-leading 16th overall.
Raskin’s stellar finish to her career earned her the Miami Herald’s Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year honors for Classes 7A-5A in Broward County.
“As a team, we had the motivation to get it done this year and we did,” Raskin said. “We thought about it 24-7 after that loss last year in the final. This year, we were more together on and off the field and the relationships grew stronger and the hard work and dedication we put into practice helped.”
Raskin certainly did her part.
She scored 31 goals and assisted on 22 more of them as a key part of one of the most dangerous scoring teams in the nation.
The Raiders went 23-2-1 and finished the season ranked No. 4 nationally by MaxPreps following a 1-0 win over Niceville in the 6A final. It was sweet redemption for Aquinas after coming up short in last year’s final, 4-3, to Jacksonville Bartram Trail.
Raskin’s next move will be to vie for similar success in college at James Madison University.
“It was great there,” Raskin said. “I had a visit with them and loved it. It’s a beautiful campus, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
