Everglades’ ground attack, defense lead the way in blowout victory

The ground game was fundamental for Everglades, setting the pace for a resounding 44-0 win against McArthur in a Thursday night District 8A-12 game.

Jakyus Johnson led the way for Everglades with 103 yards rushing and a touchdown as well as two receptions. He got support from Andrew Hines with 50 yards of his own as well as two touchdowns that helped lead the way for the Gators in their own backyard.

Defense was also key as the Gators forced four turnovers, five sacks and scored nine points of their own. The defensive scoring came from a safety they forced when quarterback Harold Carvajal fumbled the ball in the end zone and was capped off by a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown.

For the Mustangs Carvajal threw for 76 yards and suffered two interceptions, while Joven Seraphin was the team’s leading rusher with 55 yards.
