Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Nov. 19)
Broward County’s top athletes continued to deliver huge performances last week.
This week, we resume a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Nov. 23, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Eric Nelson, Miramar, football: Nelson totaled 230 receiving yards and two touchdowns to lead the Patriots to a 31-7 win over Belen Jesuit in a Region 4-3M semifinal.
▪ Omar Thornton, American Heritage, football: Thornton had 12 tackles including two for loss and two sacks to help the Patriots beat West Palm Beach Kings Academy 42-7 in a Region 3-2M semifinal.
▪ Santana Harrison, Monarch, football: Harrison recorded 13 tackles, including two for loss, intercepted two passes, forced a fumble, deflected a pass and recorded a sack to lead the Knights to a 50-27 win over Lantana Santaluces in a Region 3-4M semifinal.
▪ Alexander Weinberg, Pine Crest, boys’ golf: Weinberg’s combined two-day score of 143 secured the Class 1A boys’ individual state championship, making him the first boys’ golfer to accomplish the feat from Pine Crest.
▪ Christiana Coleman, Dillard, girls’ cross-country: Coleman won the Class 3A individual state championship with a time of 17:53.4 and led the Panthers to their first ever team title.
