Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Nov. 12)
Broward County’s best athletes delivered some top-notch performances once again last week.
This week, we resume a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Nov. 16, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Gary Hadley Jr., Blanche Ely, football: Hadley threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Tigers to a 35-12 win over Dillard in a Region 3-3M quarterfinal.
▪ Sydney Van Cott, St. Thomas Aquinas, girls’ volleyball: Van Cott had a combined 26 kills and 10 digs in two matches to help the Raiders win their first state championship since 2018 and seventh overall.
▪ Dwayne Wimbley Jr., Westminster Academy, football: Wimbley Jr. caught six passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions’ loss to Master’s Academy in the SSAC state final.
▪ Katherine Schaefer, American Heritage, girls’ golf: Schaefer shot a two-day total of 140 to capture her first individual state championship at the Class 2A meet.
▪ Raul Leyva, NSU University School, boys’ soccer: Leyva had six goals and one assist in a Sharks victory over Boca Raton Prep.
▪ James Boardman, Fort Lauderdale, boys’ diving: Boardman repeated as the Class 4A 1-meter diving state champion at the meet this past Friday in Ocala.
