Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Nov. 5)

Broward’s County’s best athletes delivered some top-notch performances once again last week.

This week, we resume a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Nov. 9, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Anthony Barbar, Westminster Academy, football: Barbar threw for three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Lions to a 41-20 victory over NSU University School in the SSAC state semifinals.

Brett Moore, Archbishop McCarthy, boys’ golf: Moore shot a 65 to win the Region 4-2A championship.

Mikayla Porter, St. Thomas Aquinas, girls’ volleyball: Porter paced the Raiders with her setting, serving and defense as she finished with 15 assists, 14 digs and five aces to lead them back to the state final four following a four-set win over Miami Lourdes Academy.

Kaii Winkler, South Florida HEAT, boys’ swimming and diving: Winkler set a national record in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:32.68 and won the 100 butterfly in 46.33 seconds at the Class 1A state meet. His 42.14 split in the 400-yard freestyle relay also broke a national record.

Erika Pelaez, South Florida HEAT, girls’ swimming and diving: Pelaez set state records in the 50-yard freestyle (21.98) and 100-yard backstroke (51.29) and was part of the winning 400 free relay at the Class 1A state meet.
