American Heritage wide receiver Brandon Inniss wins Florida Gatorade Player of the Year

Brandon Inniss has been touted as one of South Florida’s next great players since middle school. Now, the five-star wide receiver has additional validation as the top player in the entire state.

The Plantation American Heritage star is the Florida Gatorade Football Player of the Year.

Inniss is now a finalist for the national Gatorade Player of the Year award, which will be handed out later this month. The award winners in each of the 50 states, plus Washington, are finalists for the national award.

Inniss, who signed with the Ohio State Buckeyes last month, is a worthy recipient of the state award and candidate for the national accolade. He’s a five-star wide receiver and No. 29 overall prospect in the Class 2023, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and helped American Heritage reach the Class 2M championship game last month.

The Patriots finished the year at No. 12 in MaxPreps’ rankings after losing the 2M title game to No. 2 Miami Central.

His production also stacked up with just about any other receiver from across the country, despite the loaded schedule American Heritage faced. The 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver caught 71 passes for 1,319 yards and 15 touchdowns, plus thre carries for 29 yards and a kick-return touchdown. He also mixed in some defensive play and logged 10 tackles and one interception in the part-time role.

Inniss is currently in San Antonio to play in the All-American Bowl.

Some of Inniss biggest performances also came in the biggest spots, including a 221-yard game against Lowndes in Valdosta, Georgia, to open the season and 92 yards in the state-title loss to Central.

Inniss is the third Patriot -- and second in three years -- to win the state’s Gatorade award. James Williams, who’s now a star safety for the Miami Hurricanes, won the award for the 2020 high school football season and running back Sony Michel won the award back in 2013.
