Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Dec. 11)
The winter sports season has kicked into high gear as it enters its second month with teams picking up early-season momentum and delivering outstanding performances.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Dec. 15, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Jeremiah Smith, Chaminade-Madonna, football: Smith caught six passes for 104 yards including an acrobatic one-handed touchdown catch - one of two in the game - to lead the Lions to a 48-14 win over Clearwater Central Catholic and their fifth state title in six years.
▪ Ryder Lewin, Cypress Bay, football: Lewin scored a touchdown and directed an 80-yard game-winning drive for the South All-Stars, who beat the North 14-7 in the BCAA All-Star football game.
▪ Marissa Martin, Pembroke Pines Charter, girls’ soccer: Martin had two goals to lead the Jaguars to a 3-1 comeback win over Western.
▪ Jaymar Previl, South Plantation, boys’ basketball: Previl scored 13 points and finished with nine rebounds and six steals in a win over Pompano Beach to move the Paladins to 7-1 so far for the season.
▪ Francesca Durand, Archbishop McCarthy, girls’ soccer: Durand scored a goal in each of the Mavericks’ wins over Palmetto and South Florida HEAT to remain unbeaten at 9-0.
