Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Oct. 16)
The first two months of the fall sports season have seen their share of stellar performances by top Broward County athletes. More of them led to key victories for their teams this past week.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Oct. 20, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Christopher Johnson, Dillard, football: Johnson scored three touchdowns to lead the Panthers to a 42-6 win over Plantation.
▪ Anthony Barbar, Westminster Academy, football: Barbar threw two more touchdown passes in a 31-6 win over University School to follow up a 19-of-21, 304-yard, four-touchdown performance against Jacksonville Bishop Snyder, which also included two 2-point conversions.
▪ Emma Gulaskey, Chaminade-Madonna, girls’ volleyball: Gulaskey had 24 kills and 27 digs in sweeps over Archbishop McCarthy and Pembroke Pines Charter.
▪ Mason Green, Taravella, boys’ swimming: Green successfully defended his title in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.01 at the BCAA championships. He also won the 200-freestyle at 1:42.67, which was the second fastest time in Broward this season.
▪ Julianne McCranie, St. Thomas Aquinas, girls’ swimming: McCranie helped the Raiders dethrone Cypress Bay as the defending champion at the BCAA championships by setting a meet record in the 100 butterfly (55.80 seconds) and winning the 100 backstroke in 57.73.
