These top area basketball teams will face off at the MLK Basketball Classic this weekend

A bevy of South Florida high school boys basketball talent as well as a few out-of-town teams will come together this holiday weekend as the 24th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Basketball Classic is ready to go.

The two-day event will be held at Stranahan High School (1800 SW 5th Place) in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday and Monday with 32 teams participating (eight games each day). Action begins at 10 a.m. each day.

Two of the bigger games on Saturday will be Norland/Coral Springs Charter (7 p.m.) and Palm Beach Lakes/Dillard at 8:30 p.m. while two of Monday’s high-profile games will feature defending 9A state runnerup Wellington taking on reigning 2A state champ Miami Christian (5:30 p.m) followed by Northwestern against defending 8A state champion Blanche Ely at 7.

Ticket prices vary. $10 (no re-entry), $12 (all-day pass), $25 (event pass, reserved courtside seats, hospitality access) and $50 (two courtside seats, free VIP parking, hospitality access, event hat, event Nike polo shirt).
