Cooper City senior Kathleen Golding has owned the BCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

She finished her career with four meet records, with two coming on Saturday at the Central Park Aquatic Complex.

Golding will head to the University of Florida next year with meet records in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle.

Golding set a meet record in her first race of the finals on Saturday with a time of 1:50.39 in the 200-free, breaking the previous record of 1:52.35 set by Cypress Bay’s Ileana Lucos in 2006.

“When I’ve come to this meet, it’s the only other prelim style meet in the state,” Golding said. “I treat it like a mini-states. For me it’s about getting my hand on the wall first.

“I just really hate to lose. One you’re on top you must fight to stay there.

Golding’s second record of the day came in the 200-yard IM at 2:02.35, breaking her own record set last year (2:02.93).

“She is still improving and is a focused swimmer,” said Cooper City coach Jill Ankney. “She’s dedicated, thrives for swimming and breathes for swimming.

“For what she has done, she’s had to believe in herself. I knew where she was going when she came her to Cooper City. She’s still going to go far.”

Said Golding: “My career has been a lot of fun. I’m sad that I’m leaving it behind.”

Cypress Bay was the overall boys and girls team champions for the second straight year finishing with 569 and 585 points, respectively.

Diego Machado of Cypress Bay set a meet record in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:41.81 surpassing the previous record of 1:42.41 set by Franco Lupoli of Cypress Bay in 2011.

It was the second year for the junior winning the event.

“I had this on my mind last year,” said Machado. “I didn’t come close last year and wanted to make it happen this time. I feel I can lower that time even more.”

Machado would also win the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.45.

Juan Zapata was a double winner for St. Thomas Aquinas with victories in the 200-yard Individual Medley (1:54.72) and the 100-yard butterfly (50.72).
