Cortez Grace scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with four seconds remaining to lift the Deerfield Beach football team (2-1) over archrival Blanche Ely 14-12.


Carly Smitherman, Cooper City, girls’ volleyball: Smitherman had seven digs, six kills, three blocks and eight assists to lead the Cowboys over South Plantation.

Tsion Yared and Julia Montgomery, Pine Crest, girls’ cross country: Yared clocked a meet-record 18:59 and two-time defending Class 2A state champion Julia Montgomery finished second in 19:14 to help the Panthers win the Pine Crest Invitational title.

Jhakari Harrison, Coconut Creek, football: Harrison passed for four touchdowns as the Cougars beat Nova 55-24.

Miriyam Ghali, Pine Crest, girls’ swimming: Ghali won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke to lead the Panthers over Westminster Academy 171-99.

Jake Bofshever, Coral Springs, football: Bofshever threw two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Colts (2-0) past Fort Lauderdale 24-14.

Andreina Merchan, American Heritage, girls’ golf: Merchan shot 68 to finish second and led the Patriots to the Central Florida Tournament of Champions team title.

Ryan Stanley, Flanagan, football: Stanley threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Falcons (2-0) beat Boyd Anderson 42-0.

Alex Monti, West Broward, boys’ swimming: Monti won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle to help the Bobcats beat South Plantation and Cardinal Gibbons.

Kristian Caparros, American Heritage, boys’ golf: Caparros made his case to move up from No. 11 in the POLO national rankings by shooting 67 and winning medalist honors at the Olympia Invitational.

Dani Tovar, Western, girls’ volleyball: Tovar had 17 digs, seven aces and four kills to lead the Wildcats (6-0) over Deerfield Beach.
