Last week’s best Broward high school performances


Sophomore standout Allison Muraskin scattered three hits, allowed one run and struck out seven to lift the Coral Springs Charter softball team (29-0-1) over Callahan West Nassau 3-1 for the Class 4A state title, capping the first unbeaten season in the Panthers’ school history.


Michael Moreiras, Archbishop McCarthy, boys’ volleyball: Moreiras had 14 kills and 13 digs in a four-set victory over Orlando Timber Creek in the state semifinals.

Christian Demby, Archbishop McCarthy, baseball: Demby threw a two-hitter and struck out 10 to lead the Mavericks past Merritt Island 2-1 in the Region 4-5A final.

Nicole Lennie, Everglades, flag football: Lennie threw two touchdown passes, including the game-winner to Alyssa Jones with 12 seconds left, to lift the Gators (15-2) over Taravella 13-7 in the state quarterfinals.

Gentry Fortuno, Flanagan, baseball: Fortuno threw a one-hitter and struck out eight to lead the Falcons over West Broward 9-0 in the Class 8A regional semifinals.

Jenna Goodrich, American Heritage, softball: Goodrich hit a grand slam to lead the Patriots over Gulfport Boca Ciega 4-0 in the Class 5A state semifinals.

Jessica England, Douglas, softball: England went 1 for 4 with an RBI in a 9-5 loss to Miami Coral Reef in the Class 8A state semifinals.
