Nino Sannasardo (182), Dominick Gibson (120), Erich Byelick (145) and Diego Bell (195) each had runner-up state finishes to help the Cardinal Gibbons wrestling team finish second at the Class 1A state championship.


Victor Santana, Archbishop McCarthy, boys’ track: Santana won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the Dade Christian Invitational.

Kellyn Abbanat, Douglas, girls’ tennis: Abbanat won at No. 1 singles to lead the Eagles over Flanagan 5-2.

Jenna Goodrich, American Heritage, softball: Goodrich (8-0) tossed 31/3 hitless innings in relief to help the Patriots (13-0) rally past Douglas 6-3 in the SlamFest Tournament Gray Bracket championship game.

Raekwon Reggler, Somerset, wrestling: Reggler (60-5) won his second consecutive Class 1A state title at 182 pounds.

Nick Izquierdo, Chaminade, baseball: Izquierdo went 2 for 3, with two runs and two RBI to lead the Lions over Somerset 11-8.

Stephen Raidel, Flanagan, boy’ water polo: Raidel had six goals to lead the Falcons (6-3) over Cooper City 12-5.

Sommer Grzybek, Cooper City, softball: Grzybek went 3 for 5 with two home runs, a double and five RBI to lead the Cowboys past Gulliver Prep 13-4 in the SlamFest Tournament Blue Bracket championship game.

Max Lazar, Coral Springs, baseball: Lazar (3-1) scattered four hits and struck out nine to lift the Colts past Coral Glades 2-0.

Julia Montgomery, Pine Crest, girls’ track: Montgomery won the 1,600 and 3,200 to help the Panthers win the Calvary Christian Invitational title.

Carolina Kapp and Jada Preston, University School, girls’ lacrosse: Kapp and Preston each had four goals to lead the Suns past American Heritage 11-9.
