American Heritage wins its golf invitational

American Heritage’s boys opened the golf season Tuesday with a victory as hosts in their 18th annual Invitational at Lago Mar Golf Course.

Junior Alberto Martinez secured medalist honors by shooting a 2-over-par 74. Senior Jonathan Cachon and freshman Jude Kim tied for second as each shot 75.

Heritage shot a victorious team score of 304 to finish 10 shots ahead of runner-up St. Thomas Aquinas, which was led by Joe Lewis’ fourth-place finish (77).

Palm Beach Benjamin shot 317 to place third and Cardinal Gibbons finished fourth with a score of 329.

Columbus’ Sharif Amastha finished second individually after shooting an even-par 71 and helped the Explorers finish third at the Westminster Christian Invitational at Biltmore Golf Course on Tuesday.

Amastha and Columbus were the highest Miami-Dade or Broward County finishers individually and in the team standings respectively.

West Palm Beach Kings Academy shot a 290 to win the team title, and their top golfer Andrew Kozan shot a 4-under 67 to win the individual championship. Vero Beach came in second among teams with a score of 298. Columbus shot 307 among the field of 17 teams.
