Plummer leads Columbus to boys’ volleyball win over rival Belen Jesuit

Logan Plummer had 10 kills to lead the Columbus boys’ volleyball team to a three-set victory over rival Belen Jesuit on Friday.

Alex Suarez had six kills, three aces and Gabriel Campo added 24 assists and two aces for the Explorers (24-1), who beat the Wolverines 25-21, 25-10, 25-16.

MORE BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

▪ Chaminade-Madonna edged St. Thomas Aquinas in four sets (25-17, 17-25, 25-12, 28-25). Ryan Seilkop had 14 assists, nine kills, 15 points and four aces to lead the Lions (9-12). Tyler O’Connor finished with 12 points, two aces and seven digs. Jamal Clarke had eight kills and four blocks for the Raiders (6-13) in a losing effort.

STA: Jack Brennen 6 digs, 13 points, 4 aces. Tyler Thomas 15 kills, 9 digs, 6 points, 3 aces. Evan Wurts 13 assists, 5 points, ace.

▪ Franky Zamora had seven kills, 33 assists and nine digs in a Hialeah-Miami Lakes victory over Coral Park in four sets (27-25, 22-25, 25-10, 25-14). Christopher Perdomo added 12 kills, and Abraham Castillo had 15 kills, 14 digs, and six blocks. Andrew Uria registered eight kills and 12 digs for the Trojans (15-7).

▪ Late Thursday — Braddock d. Pace (25-15, 25-12, 27-25).

BASEBALL

▪ Danny San Pedro struck out six in five innings as Florida Christian took home the District 8-4A championship with a 9-4 victory over Westminster Christian late Thursday night. Kevin Sabatier picked up the save for the Patriots. Ruben Someillan went 1 for 2 with a home run and three runs scored. Alex Cerda also went 1 for 2 with a homer, and he scored two runs.

▪ SLAM Academy defeated University School 5-3 in the District 7-4A semifinal late Thursday night. Chauncey Nunez struck out seven batters in five innings and allowed two runs and five walks. Conrad Rivera pitched two innings to earn the save. Andres Santana and Yoel Quintana had two hits and two RBI apiece.

SLAM (18-8) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, led off by back-to-back singles from Juan Osorio and Brian Vargas.
