MORE BASEBALL DISTRICT FINALS
▪ District 16-6A Final — Goleman 8, Miami Springs 1: Goleman and Miami Springs met in the district title game for the third year in a row and, thanks to a fast start, it was the Gators who prevailed at Miami Springs High School.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the first inning, Goleman’s Michael Avendano delivered a two-run double down the left-field line before Jasiel Perez stepped up and delivered a two-run single up the middle to stake Goleman to an early 4-0 lead.
They turned things over to pitcher Mario Lopez from there, and Lopez went the distance, scattering nine hits to record the win. Goleman (25-2) will host Archbishop McCarthy at 4 p.m. at Florida Memorial College and Miami Springs (12-8) will play at Plantation American Heritage at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
