Coral Gables wins District 14-9A softball title

Taylor Fay scored three runs as the Coral Gables softball team beat South Miami 12-9 in the 14-9A district final, Friday afternoon.

Cavaliers’ (13-9) Kylie Santana (6-6) pitched seven innings and struck out six for the win.

Emma Cavo went 3-4, with an RBI and stole two bases.

Gulliver continues its dominant season after defeating Key West 18-2 in the first round of regional play-in.

Raiders’ (15-3) twins, Dominic and Dante Benitez had nine and five ground balls, respectively.

STATE TENNIS

Riviera Prep’s doubles team of Sara Culbertson and Nicole Katzarkov couldn’t complete the sweep Friday at Sylvan Lake Park in Sanford, losing in the Class 1A finals to Sarasota Out-of-Door Academy’s Mbalia Bangoura and Sydney Sforzo 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

Culbertson, a senior and University of Miami signee, took home the singles championship on Thursday which was the first in the school’s history.

Calusa Prep’s 6-4 junior Nathaniel Jack made third team on the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches’ Independents All-State team.
