The MAST water polo teams swept the GMAC championships for the first time. Cara Mullery had a combined 10 goals to lead the Makos’ girls to their second consecutive state championship. Kurtis Urguhart led the boys to their first since 2011 with four goals, six assists, three blocks and two assists.


Alek Manoah, South Dade, baseball: Manoah went 5 for 5 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Bucs to an 11-2 win over Palmetto and gave up one run in six innings pitched in a 4-2 win over Killian.

Emily Santos, Miami Springs, softball: Santos struck out 11 and went 2 for 3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI in a 5-4 win over Goleman.

Tyrese Cooper, American, boys’ track and field: Cooper won the 100 and 200 meters at the Youth Fair Invitational.

Symone Mason, Southridge, girls’ track and field: Mason won the 100 and 200 meters at the Youth Fair Invitational.

Tom Jaworski, Mourning, boys’ tennis: Jaworski won both his singles and doubles matches to lead the Sharks to the District 15-3A title.

Michelle Adan-Pol, Terra, girls’ tennis: Adan-Pol won her No. 2 singles match and her No. 1 doubles match to lead the Wolves to the District 16-3A title.

Carlos Clavijo, St. Brendan, boys’ lacrosse: Clavijo scored five goals against Naples Palmetto Ridge to set the state-record for goals in a season with 110.

Franky Zamora, Hialeah-Miami Lakes, boys’ volleyball: Zamora had 31 assists to lead the Trojans to a five-set win over Braddock.

Jaquala Brown, Edison, flag football: Brown went 10 for 10 passing for 125 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Red Raiders over Miami Springs.

Laura and Claudia Morales, Christian Gonzalez and Madison Chamizo, Southwest, badminton: Each of them helped the Eagles complete their third consecutive undefeated season.
