St. Thomas Aquinas declared winner of Kissimmee Klassic softball tourney

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team was declared the winner of the Blue division of the 24th annual Kissimmee Klassic after inclement weather forced the cancellation of the final round Saturday.

The Raiders (15-3) came up with a huge 11-3 win Friday night, upsetting Orange Park Oakleaf, the top-ranked team in the nation by MaxPreps. Lauren Stansell went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI to lead St. Thomas. Pitcher Brooke Stock (11-3) earned the win.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

The Monarch boys’ volleyball team finished second in the Gold bracket of the Smoothie King Invitational Saturday at Ransom Everglades.

The Knights fell in the championship match against reigning state champion Orlando Bishop Moore. Monarch beat Orlando Dr. Phillips in the semifinals. Archbishop McCarthy took home the Silver bracket championship by defeating Mourning in the final after beating Orlando Timber Creek in the semifinals.

Killian bested Tampa Berkeley Prep to win the bronze division following a semifinal win over Coral Reef. Ransom beat Chaminade-Madonna to win the Copper bracket despite losing star hitter Michael Colonna to an ankle injury.

Bishop Moore’s Domanik Stratford earned tournament MVP honors as he and Carson Kohle made the All-Tournament team. Also making the team were Archbishop McCarthy’s Nicky Grossman, Mourning’s Will Zuluaga, Monarch’s Sean Drexl and Dr. Phillips’ Ritchie Diedrich.

TENNIS

American Heritage boys’ tennis beat Somerset 4-1 in a District 15-2A playoff for second on Friday to advance to regionals. Jordan Skalet beat District Champion Brandon Shanklin 8-2, and Adam Duan beat No.1 seed Emmanuel Naranjo to clinch the runner-up spot for the Patriots.
