Four Miami Central football players named first team All-State by AP
South Florida continued to be well-represented as The Associated Press released its Class 6A and 5A All-State football teams Wednesday.
Miami Central, winner of four consecutive state championships and five in the past six years, had four players crack the first team in Class 6A.
Rockets senior defensive end Keir Thomas (20 sacks), linebacker Donovan Thompson (135 tackles) and safety Jamel Cook (six interceptions) highlighted the defense. Central junior Navaughn Donaldson made it on the offensive line.
Miami Carol City junior wide receiver Kevaughn Dingle also made first team after leading Dade large schools in receiving with 29 catches for 838 yards and 11 touchdowns. Miami Norland linebacker Vosean Joseph, a University of Florida commitment, also made the first team.
Hallandale quarterback Tyler Huntley, the Gatorade Player of the Year in Florida, and wide receiver Joshua Hammond each earned first-team Class 5A honors.
Huntley put up staggering numbers once again, finishing with 3,636 yards passing and 42 touchdowns. Hammond led Broward County in receiving with 68 catches for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Plantation American Heritage defensive end Brian Burns, who led the county with 16 sacks, and defensive back Patrick Surtain (two interceptions) also made the first team.

Booker T. Washington quarterback Daniel Richardson has transferred to Miramar High School, according to a source close to the school.
Richardson led Miami-Dade County in passing as a freshman this past season and led the Tornadoes to their fourth consecutive state championship. Richardson passed for 2,765 yards, 33 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on 201 of 325 attempts. Miramar went 5-5 and missed the playoffs this past season, throwing for only 932 passing yards as a team.
STEWART HIRED AT DORAL
After helping lead the Hallandale to its deepest playoff run in school history and mentoring Utah-bound quarterback Tyler Huntley, Chargers offensive coordinator Jase Stewart was named the new head coach at Doral Academy on Wednesday.
Stewart spent the past three seasons with Hallandale under Dameon Jones (who stepped down last week) as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Before that, he worked at Norland under coach Daryle Heidleburg as that team’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2010 to 2012, a stint that included a state title in 2011.
