Three Booker T. Washington players honored on AP All-State team
Following a remarkable run to its fourth consecutive Class 4A state championship, Miami Booker T. Washington led the South Florida contingent on the first batch of All-State football teams released so far by The Associated Press.
The Tornadoes had three players — wide receiver Raymond Flanders, defensive end Jaquan Beaver and kicker/punter Jose Borregales — earn first-team Class 4A honors.
Flanders led Miami-Dade County in receiving, Beaver led the county in sacks and Borregales in kicking.
Four more local players also earned first team honors.
Miami Edison senior offensive lineman Keldrick Cesar, Gulliver Prep defensive back Cedric Wright and Coral Springs Charter all-purpose standout Calvin Jackson also made first team in Class 4A.
In Class 3A, all-purpose star Elbre Gaiter earned first team honors after helping Miami Westminster Christian win another district championship.
Booker T.’s first-team trio highlighted a group of eight Tornadoes overall that made it in Class 4A. Junior linebacker Dedrick Mackey and junior defensive backs Marquis Decius and Richard Dames made second team. Freshman quarterback Daniel Richardson and senior wide receiver Darrius Scott each earned honorable mention.
Dade Christian, which advanced to the Class 2A regional finals, had two players earn second team honors in that classification. They were junior defensive end Jose "Pepe" Valdivia and all-purpose junior wide receiver DeWayne Terry.
