Rolle, Huell lead Norland boys’ basketball victory over Chaminade-Madonna

Kennith Rolle’s palms smoked after he dropped his third consecutive three-pointer in Norland’s 76-52 win over Chaminade-Madonna on Saturday. The Vikings used a 25-2 run to control the Kreul Classic contest at Monarch.

“My coaches told me to keep shooting,” Rolle said. “That’s what we work on in practice. So I went out here and played my hardest. Got the big man involved. I watched Steph Curry highlights before the game.”

The Vikings (6-0) trailed 10-9 in the first quarter before exploding for 30 points in the second quarter.

“We started the game off slow in the first quarter, but we turned it up for the second quarter and kept it up to close out the game,” said Dewan Huell, who led the Vikings with 23 points.

After taking a 39-19 lead into the half, the Vikings were outscored 18-15 in the third quarter but finished strong by feeding Huell and draining jumpers. Rolle finished the night with five three-pointers, and the Vikings netted 10 as a team.

“I’m used to the guards playing well,” Huell said. “It’s a shooting team. We have them all over. We’ve had a good performance, but we need to learn to stop coming out so slow.”

David Jean-Baptiste scored 10 points and Tyrik Waite scored 11 points in the win. Akiem Daschner scored 13 points in the loss for Chaminade-Madonna.

Miami Christian (5-1) lost a 14-point halftime lead after McArthur (3-4) scored 24 points in the third quarter but held on to win 57-55 in the Kreul Classic. The Victors used a barrage of three-pointers from Jordan Hamburger to gain its first-half lead.

The Mustangs took a 42-40 edge into the fourth quarter and had several chances to finish the Victors in the final minutes, but could not convert.

“We didn’t expect that at all,” said Hamburger, who scored 12 points in the win. “They were very tough and played different from the first half.

“In the second half they figured out I was a shooter so they starting get help on me. We faced a problem today, when they didn’t leave me open anymore so we had to go to different options.”

Hamburger had a trio of three-pointers in the win, and Eduardo Comacho paced the Victors with 17 points. Nate Johnson scored 18 points and also had three, three-pointers in the loss.
