Central boys edge Mater Academy by three in boys’ basketball

The Miami Central boys’ basketball team opened its season with a 68-65 victory over host Mater Academy on Wednesday night.

Anthony Wilson notched his first double-double of the season with 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Rockets.

Kareem Nunnally added 12 points, four steals and six assists.

Rafael Diaz had a stellar offensive night for the Lions, who led at halftime 35-30, with a game-high 34 points.

Central will play Miami Beach at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

SIGNINGS

Archbishop McCarthy golfer Michelle Rodriguez signed with Marshall on Wednesday.

Rodriguez, a three-time All-County first team selection, is a four-time district runner-up and this season helped the Mavericks win the Class 2A girls’ golf state championship.

Her coach at Marshall will be former University of Miami standout Tiffany Prats.

La Salle shortstop Daniel Rodriguez signed with Spring Hill College, a Division II school in Mobile, Alabama.
