Top team performance in Miami-Dade last week is Belen Jesuit cross-country

Last week’s best Miami-Dade performances


Belen Jesuit’s cross-country team secured the Mountain Dew Invitational championship led by Joshua Collins, who finished fifth in 15:52.21.


Randle Jones, Miami Beach, football: Jones ran five times for 208 yards and a touchdown to lead the Hi-Tides to a 47-8 win over Coral Park.

Matthew Bethel, Krop, football: Bethel went 7 for 8 for 179 yards and threw three touchdown passes to lead the Lightning to a 28-26 win over North Miami Beach.

Claudia Campero, Varela, girls’ volleyball: Only a few days after leading the Vipers to the Coral Park Invitational title, Campero had 35 combined kills to lead them to wins over Killian, Sunset and Coral Gables.

Miguel Cancel, Gulliver, boys’ swimming and diving: Cancel finished second in the 200 free and 100 backstroke, and led the Raiders to a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay at the Bolles Invitational.

Niki Urquidi and Kelly Fertel, Gulliver, girls’ swimming and diving: Urquidi won the 200 freestyle, Fertel won the 200 IM and then they both joined Andrea Santander and Emily Cordovi to help Gulliver win the 200 medley relay at the Jacksonville Bolles Invitational.

Carlin Berryhill, Coral Reef, boys’ cross-country: Berryhill ran a time of 16:16.80 to win the Class 4A race of the Spanish River Invitational.

Natalie Varela, Gulliver, girls’ cross-country: Varela won the Spanish River Invitational Class 2A race with a time of 18:53.28.

Cameron Piedra, Palmer Trinity, boys’ golf: Piedra shot a 1-over-par 71 to secure the Youth Fair Invitational individual title.

Daniella Spillert, Lourdes, girls’ golf: Spillert shot a 2-over 75 to win the Youth Fair Invitational championship.

Kevin Morrissey, TERRA, boys’ bowling: Morrissey bowled a 676 high series to lead the Wolves to a win over Palmetto.

Vanessa Perez, Ferguson, girls’ bowling: Perez bowled a 463 to lead the Falcons to a win over Coral Park.
