Aquinas volleyball gets easy victory against Plantation

The St. Thomas Aquinas volleyball team won its first state championship in over 10 years last season and the Raiders are off to a pretty good start in 2015.

Aquinas won its fourth match of the season Tuesday, easing past Plantation in three games 25-4, 25-4, 25-6.

The Raiders, defending Class 7A champions, are 4-1 with their only loss coming to nationally-ranked Gainesville P.K. Yonge — which beat Pine Crest in the Class 4A championship last year — in five sets on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Kirsten Klos paced the Raiders with 14 service points with seven aces and four kills. Amelia McCrory added eight points (six off aces) and three kills.

Pine Crest, meanwhile, improved to 3-0 by handing Chaminade-Madonna its first loss of the season in three sets 25-10, 25-11, 25-13.

Caitlin Harvey led the Panthers with eight kills while Brianna Bruny had six kills and five digs.
