TEAM OF THE WEEK

Junior Jake Allen, an ESPN four-star prospect committed to the University of Florida, threw for 259 yards and four touchdowns, including two to senior star wideout Sam Bruce (63 yards), to help the St. Thomas Aquinas football team throttle Booker T. Washington 35-3 and end the Tornadoes’ 41-game winning streak.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Luke Ashworth, Western, boys’ golf: Ashworth won medalist (39) to lead the Wildcats over Nova 188-237.

George Golden, Dillard, football: Golden rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown to lead the Panthers over Stranahan 32-13.

Carolyn Smitherman, Cooper City, girls’ volleyball: Smitherman had nine kills, three blocks, five digs, seven points, 5 aces and 9 assists to lead the Cowboys over McArthur in three sets.

Feshiba Funeus, Cypress Bay, girls’ volleyball: Fenus had 5 points, six kills, and three digs to lead the Lightning over South Plantation.

Brian Burns, American Heritage, football: Burns (two sacks) led a ferocious defense which held Stephenson quarterback Xavier Sheppard to 3 of 18 passing for 26 yards and three interceptions in the Patriots’ 36-8 victory.

Kirsten Colwell, Monarch, girls’ volleyball: Colwell had 8 kills, 3 blocks and four points to lead the Knights over Sagemont in three sets.

Jhakari Harrison, Coconut Creek, football: Harrison threw for 361 yards, including 21 of 24, and three touchdowns to lead the Cougars over Marist (GA) 41-21 in the Battle of the Borders Showdown in Atlanta.

Leslie Farnes, Coral Springs, girls’ volleyball: Farnes had 21 points, 17 aces, 10 kills and seven assists to lead the Colts over Piper in four sets.

Cavin Ridley, Deerfield Beach, football: Ridley caught five passes for 124 yards and a touchdown and an extra-point reception to lead the Bucks over Cypress Bay 35-14.
