Miami Herald High School Athlete of the Week 31: Jaime Saavedra of Belen track & field

Jaime Saavedra of the Belen Jesuit track & field team is the Miami Herald Athlete of the Week for Week 31.

The sophomore won a region title in the javelin to help the Wolverines win their third consecutive region team championship. His winning throw was 184-feet, 10-inches in Miramar.

Other nominees were: Lydia Berent, Cardinal Gibbons softball; Nyla Christian, Plantation track & field; Manuel Cueva, Divine Savior boys’ volleyball; Lamayah Howard, Miami Northwestern track & field; Keviana Dickenson, Dillard track & field; and O’Hara Tommie, Northeast track & field.
