This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best high school varsity performer of the week (in Broward and Miami-Dade counties).

This week includes nominees from high school softball, tennis, boys’ volleyball, water polo, and weightlifting.

Keygan Boyett, Cooper City weightlifting: the senior was third in the Traditional Unlimited division of the 3A region championships in West Palm Beach.

Emmy Cerda, Palmer Trinity softball: the junior was the winning pitcher against Westminster Christian with eight strikeouts, while allowing seven hits, two walks and four earned runs as the Falcons won their first district title in 40 years. She also helped her cause with a walk and an RBI and was hit by a pitch twice.

Samuel Eastaugh. St. Thomas Aquinas water polo: the senior had a game-high 5 goals with 3 assists to lead the Raiders (26-4) over Ransom Everglades 14-12 for the FHSAA Water Polo State Championship. In a 13-10 semifinal win over Seminole, he scored twice.

Billy Essig, Belen Jesuit boys’ volleyball: the junior had a match-high 22 kills and a match-high 38 serve received as well as 7 digs, 1 block and 1 ace as the Wolverines (21-6) beat Varela 26-24, 25-23, 16-25, 25-23 for the District 16-2A title. He also had 12 kills and 6 aces in a 25-17, 25-7, 25-9 district semifinal win over TERRA.

Sasha and Leyla Kilgour, Riviera Prep tennis: the senior and junior sister combo won an FHSAA 1A state championship in No.1 girls’ doubles. They went 4-0, winning every set, including defeating Sophia Osipova and Isabella Gonzalez from team state champion Boca Raton St. Andrews 6-4, 6-1 in the overall individual finals.

Lorenzo Lopez, Miami Country Day tennis: the junior was a 1A individual state runner-up at No.1 singles during the FHSAA Tennis State Championships in Central Florida. He went 3-0 to reach the overall finals.

Payton Seidle-Lubowitz, Doral Academy tennis: the sophomore won two medals at the FHSAA Tennis State Championships in Class 4A in Central Florida, placing runner-up in No.1 girls’ singles and No.1 girls’ doubles.

Diego Requena, Reagan boys’ volleyball: the senior setter had 9 kills, 21 assists, 4 aces, 8 digs as the Bison (13-9) won their first district championship by defeating Mater Academy Charter 21-25, 25-16, 27-25, 25-13. He also had 10 kills, 10 assists, 4 aces, 8 digs in a district semifinal win over Hialeah-Miami Lakes 25-11, 25-14, 25-13.

Victor Rodriguez, Columbus weightlifting: the senior won two region championships (in Olympic and Traditional categories at 139 pounds) to lead the Explorers to the 3A region title in West Palm Beach.

Samuel Rosales, Doral Academy tennis: the junior beat a national ranked player from defending state champ Lake Nona at No.1 singles and also won at No.1 doubles as Firebirds avenged last year’s state final loss to Lake Nona in a 4A state semifinal. Then he was part of the winning No.1 doubles tandem, gaining a key point in a 4-3 win over Cypress Bay for the FHSAA team state title. He later won an individual state title at No.1 doubles.
