Poll: Vote for the Miami Herald High School Athlete of the Week (25)
This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best high school varsity performer of the week (in Broward and Miami-Dade counties).
This week includes nominees from high school baseball, flag football, softball, boys’ volleyball, water polo, wrestling.

Michael Acosta, South Miami baseball: the senior pitched a complete game shutout (just 75 pitches) against Miami Sunset. He allowed one run, none earned, on three hits with no walks and six strikeouts in seven innings. He also helped his cause, going 1-for-3 and scoring in a 5-1 victory.
Skylar Flowers, Cooper City water polo: at the Venice Tournament, the junior had 11 goals in a win over Gainesville and 4 goals in a win over Venice. She also had 9 goals in a win over Riviera Beach Suncoast and 8 goals in a win over Jupiter.
Kayley Garcia, Hialeah Gardens softball: the freshman went 4-for-4 with 1 double, 1 walk, 4 runs and 2 RBI in a win over Miami Springs, 1-for-2 with 3 walks, 4 runs and 1 RBI in a win over Miami Beach and 1-for-2 against Barbara Goleman.
Caleb Hernandez, Doral Academy baseball: the sophomore went 2-for-2 with 2 runs in a win over SLAM Academy, 2-for-3 with 3 runs in a win over Sarasota Riverview and 3-for-4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI in a win over Coral Reef for the unbeaten Firebirds (10-0).
Keagan Mesina, Mater Lakes Academy wrestling: the sophomore won the Region 4-1A title at 132 pounds to improve to 18-0 on the season, while helping the Bears win the region team title.
Mikeria Miller, Miami Edison flag football: the freshman scored the winner on a pick-six on a 15-yard interception return en route to the Red Raiders 12-0 shutout win over the state’s No.5 Miami Palmetto.
Lucas Riva, Columbus boys’ volleyball: the senior had 18 kills, 4 aces, 3 blocks, and 6 digs in a 4-set win over Cardinal Gibbons.
Tristan Sainz, Somerset Academy Pembroke Pines wrestling: the senior won the Region 4-2A title at 157 pounds to improve to 30-0 on the season, while helping the Panthers win the region team title.
