South Dade added to its tremendous wrestling legacy as the Buccaneers’ girls’ team won the Region 4-1A title at its home gym in Homestead.
Region champs Victoria Sifuentes (110) and Willow White (130) led champion South Dade. White is 27-1.
Runner-up Mater Lakes Academy celebrated three region champs: Paola Perez (100) at 27-2, Arianna Ruiz (125) at 35-1, Alena Rik (145) at 21-2.
Florida Christian and Stoneman Douglas each had two region champs.
The FHSAA State Tournament is March 5-7 at Silver Spurs Arena at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee.

Basketball playoffs
Isabella Aversa had a triple double with 12 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds as the LaSalle girls’ basketball team won a Region 4-3A semifinal, defeating Keys Gate 62-52.
Palmer Trinity continues to roll with Emma Esparza continuing to make history.
The junior broke two school records (assists in a season 142 and steals in a season 119) in the Region 4-2A semifinal win over Westminster Christian. Emily Montes, who played NCAA Division I Ivy League basketball, was the record holder in both.

Baseball
Doral Academy baseball improved to 6-0 in the early goings of the season.
Scoring the tying and winning runs on wild pitches, Southwest rallied from a 7-0 deficit to edge iMater Charter 8-7 at Andre Dawson Field. The Eagles also beat Hialeah Gardens with pitcher Euclides Alvarez recording the win in both games.
After losing its opener to Western, McArthur has won four consecutive games, and Palmetto improved to 2-1 with a 9-8 win over Brito. The Panthers scored six in the fifth to go ahead 9-5 and then halted a late Brito rally.

Winning pitcher Emely Ramirez recorded the shutout with six strikeouts as Braddock softball defeated TERRA 8-0.
