Poll: Vote for the Miami Herald High School Athlete of the Week (16)
This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best high school varsity performer of the week (in Broward and Miami-Dade counties).
This week includes nominees from high school basketball, soccer and wrestling.

Gabriel Alonso, Dade Christian basketball: the junior averaged 31 points per game in 3 victories to lead the unbeaten Warriors to their best start (12-0) in school history. He had 19 points (2 3-ptrs) & 4 rebounds against American; 32 points (6 3-ptrs) & 5 rebounds against Miami Jackson; and 43 points (8 3-ptrs) & 5 rebounds against North Miami.
Rayna Benoit, North Miami basketball: the sophomore set a school record by making 10-of-11 3-pointers as the Pioneers defeated Miami Beach 94-17. She finished with game-high 45 points. She also scored 23 points with 5-of-7 3-pointers in a win over Gulliver Prep and 21 more in a victory over Mater Academy, ranked 11th in Miami and 59th in Florida.
Kingsley Cospolite, Miami Beach soccer: the junior goalkeeper recorded three shutouts in wins over Coral Gables and Florida Christian and in a scoreless tie with Doral Academy, giving him 9 on the season for the 9-0-2 Hi-Tides.
Samantha De Gance, Stoneman Douglas wrestling: the freshman won the girls’ 135-140 title at the inaugural Chris Hixon Wrestling Classic at South Plantation HS. She went undefeated for the runner-up Eagles, beating Richelle Ciceron of third place Naples in the finals.
Isabella Aversa, LaSalle basketball: the senior led in rebounds with 11 and assists with 7, while adding 11 points in a win over Ransom Everglades. She scored 14 points and had 6 assists in a win over Westminster Christian. That included 1 3-pointer in each for the 5-2 Royal Lions.
Peter Mocco, Cardinal Gibbons wrestling: the sophomore won the boys’ 215 Hixon Gold Bracket during the inaugural Chris Hixon Wrestling Classic at South Plantation HS. Named Most Outstanding, Mocco went undefeated, culminating with a win over Todd Mancini of runner-up South Plantation in the finals for the champion Chiefs.
Cecilia Rodriguez, Lourdes soccer: the senior scored twice in a 3-1 win over Gulliver Prep as the Bobcats improved to 7-1.
