Mason Mallory of the St. Thomas Aquinas football team is the Miami Herald Athlete of the Week for Week 15.
The senior QB was named Game MVP as the Raiders shut out Lakeland 29-0 to win the FHSAA Class 5A state championship at FIU’s Pitbull Stadium in Miami. He completed 21-of-32 passes for 261 yards and ran for 103 yards.
Other nominees were: Leon Strawder, Plantation American Heritage football; Christopher Coleman, Deerfield Beach wrestling; Marcelo Mantecon, Belen Jesuit cross-country; Mathieu Blanchard, Coral Gables soccer; Sofia Laria, Palmer Trinity basketball; and Jason Martinez, Westwood Christian basketball.
