Daniela Hernandez of the Carrollton girls’ cross-country team is the Miami Herald Athlete of the Week for Week 12.

The junior won the FHSAA Girls’ District 8-2A Championship in 19 minutes 31.98 seconds. It marked her second consecutive district title for the champion Cyclones.

Other nominees were: Chris De Angulo, Belen Jesuit swimming; Jia Amores, Mater Lakes Academy swimming; Jake Williams, Columbus golf; Diego Eseverri, Columbus cross-country; Juan Vallmitjana, NSU University School swimming; Bianca Gibbs, Coral Glades golf; Nicole Lewis, Doral Academy cross-country; Amari Germain, Coral Reef football; David Lazo, South Plantation cross-country.
