The Carrollton girls’ cross-country team won the Region 4-2A Championship for the second consecutive season at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton.
Daniela Hernandez, a junior, won the individual title in 18 minutes 28.8 seconds. Junior teammate Gabriella Socarras was fifth of 115 runners in 19:19.9. Paola de la Iglesia, an 8th grader, was 11th in 19:56.4, and freshman Antonia Beltran followed in 13th at 20:01.5. Emma Filippi, another junior, placed 16th at 20:05.2.
They guided the champion Cyclones with 45 points.
Ransom Everglades was runner-up with 104 points.
Cardinal Gibbons sophomore Claire Chanon was runner-up in 18:59.9, and junior teammates Molly Murphy (fourth in 19:10.3) and Allison Albrect (eighth in 19:35.2) led the third place Chiefs.
While the Carrollton girls’ cross-country program is building into a consistent force, the Belen Jesuit boys’ team has done that, winning its 23rd consecutive region title.
At the Region 4-3A Championships in Stuart, the Wolverines posted an impressive 18-point team score, sweeping the top four individual spots to secure the program’s 29th regional title.
From the opening strides, juniors Armando Cruz and Marcelo Mantecon set the tone in the field of 116 runners, taking control of the race early. The pair crossed the line virtually together with Cruz edging ahead by fractions of a second—showcasing their brotherhood.
Not far behind, the sophomore duo of Jack Michalak and Nico Veloso locked in the next two scoring positions, matching each other elbow to elbow. They finished separated by mere thousandths of a second. Their unified effort cemented a commanding team victory and highlighted the depth that continues to make Belen one of the nation’s premier distance programs.
The youthful Wolverines qualified for their 53rd consecutive appearance at the FHSAA State Championships, which are Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. Belen pursues a ninth consecutive state title, already a Florida record, as they aim to extend a legacy defined by consistency, culture and championship-level commitment.
Lourdes won the girls’ team championship in Region 4-3A with 37 points, followed by Dillard with 71 points.
Dillard senior Abigail Richards finished second of 95 runners in 18:36.7. Freshman Marisa Mantecon (18:53.7), junior Alessandra Perez (18:58.7) and senior Daniella Fraga (19:11.1) were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively to lead the champion Bobcats.

Regional football
True North set the tone from the opening kickoff and never looked back, exploding for 35 first-half points en route to a 42-17 victory over Palmer Trinity in a 1A region quarterfinal at Tropical Park in Miami.
On the opening drive, FIU commit Zac Katz struck quickly, delivering a 32 yard touchdown pass to Kamari Bailey. After Palmer went three-and-out, the Titans wasted no time adding to the lead. On the first play of the Titans’ second series, Cecil Smith broke free for a 90-yard touchdown run, putting True North up 14-0.
Another defensive stand gave the ball back to True North, and the offense continued its early onslaught. Katz led a fast march downfield, capped by Kamari Morrison’s 21 yard touchdown run with 6:24 remaining in the first quarter for a 21-0 advantage.
The Falcons finally responded, driving to the True North 34 and converting a 51-yard field goal by Stephen Cook with 3:56 left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 21-3. After a stop, the Titans’ defense struck again as Camaul King intercepted a pass from Manny Coya and returned it 44 yards, setting up another short field series. Katz capitalized immediately, connecting with Jaron Harvey on an 8-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-3 early in the second quarter.
The defense continued to smother the Falcons, stuffing a 4th-and-1 attempt and taking over at the Palmer Trinity 45-yard line. True North marched down the field once more, with Katz keeping the ball for a 7-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 35-3 with 6:54 remaining in the half.
With the Titans up by 32 points, Palmer Trinity elected to start a running clock, and both teams went into halftime at 35-3. True North rested its starters in the second half, controlling the game the rest of the way to close the win. Palmer Trinity finished at 7-3 while True North improved to 9-2 while advancing to a 1A region semifinal on Thursday against Boca Raton St. Andrew’s (10-1).
