Poll: Vote for the Miami Herald High School Athlete of the Week (11)
This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best high school varsity performer of the week (in Broward and Miami-Dade counties).
This week includes nominees from high school bowling, cross-country, football, golf, and volleyball.

Claire Chanon, Cardinal Gibbons cross-country: the sophomore won the District 7-2A championship at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton. Her winning time 19:00.2 led the Chiefs to the district girls’ team title.
Dylan Galadza, Archbishop Carroll football: the sophomore scored three touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs over Boca Raton Olympic Heights. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns and ran for another score.
Dasia Johnson, North Broward Prep volleyball: the senior totaled 22 kills, 14 passes and 11 dig to lead the Eagles girls’ team to its first state championship in girls’ volleyball by winning the FHSAA Class 4A title in a thrilling 5-set come-from-behind victory over Merritt Island 25-17, 22-25, 18-25, 25-10, 15-10 at Polk State College in Winter Haven. Prior, she had 11 kills and 11 digs in a 3-set semifinal win over Englewood Lemon Bay.
Nicole Lewis, Doral Academy cross-country: the sophomore won the district championship for the second consecutive season. In that District 8-4A run, her 20:02 time helped the Firebirds’ girls’ team win its first team title since 2012.
Malik Penson, True North football: the senior receiver caught 4 passes for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns and also returned 2 kickoffs for touchdowns (70 and 87 yards) as the Titans secured the District 15-1A championship with win over Archbishop Carroll.
Lexander Perdomo, Ferguson bowling: the junior led all Broward and Miami-Dade bowlers by finishing seventh at the FHSAA State Championships at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando. He helped the Falcons place fifth.
Lilly Riegger, Plantation American Heritage golf: the senior tied for fourth with even par 72 to lead the Patriots to the Region 4-2A team championship. After her impressive round, she scored a key birdie in a team playoff against SLAM Academy to clinch the title.
Liam Salom, Belen Jesuit cross-country: the junior won the individual title with a personal-best time of 15 minutes 58 seconds, while leading the Wolverines to the team championship at the Pinecrest Last Chance Invitational at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton.
Jonathan Weinberg, Pine Crest golf: the senior shot 66 to win the individual title, while leading the Panthers to the team championship at districts at Plantation Preserve.
