A look at the playoff picture for South Florida high school football teams

The high school football playoffs are set to begin in just over three weeks.

As South Florida’s best vie for a chance to win state championships, here’s a region-by-region look at where things stand in each of the seven classifications involving Miami-Dade and Broward County teams with their records and spots entering the week in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s power rankings.

CLASS 7A

Top 4 seeds (Record, overall ranking): 1. Vero Beach (8-0, 1); 2. DeLand (7-0, 3); 3. Orlando Boone (8-0, 19); 4. Port Orange Spruce Creek (6-1, 27).

REGION 4-7A

1. Palmetto (6-2, 70): District 16 champions.

2. Boca Raton Spanish River (5-3, 174): District 14 leader, can clinch with win over Boca Raton.

3. Goleman (4-4, 198): District 15 at-large

4. Lantana Santaluces (5-3, 208): District 13 leader, can clinch with win over Lake Worth

5. Columbus (3-6, 217): District 16 at-large

6. South Dade (4-4, 231): District 16 at-large

7. Western (3-5, 242): District 15 champions

8. Coral Glades (6-3, 262): District 14 at-large

On the cusp: Coral Gables (3-4, 302), Boca Raton (4-4, 314), Cypress Bay (4-4, 315).

CLASS 6A

Top 4 seeds (overall ranking and class ranking): 1. Gainesville Buchholz (7-1, 4); 2. Seffner Armwood (8-0, 6); 3. Santa Rosa Pace (7-1, 14); Jacksonville Mandarin (7-1, 18).

REGION 4-6A

1. Southridge (8-1, 35): District 16 champions.

2. West Broward (6-2, 44): District 15 champions.

3. Flanagan (6-2, 130): District 15 at-large

4. Monarch (4-4, 152): District 13 co-leader, can clinch with win over Piper

5. Doral Academy (4-3, 189): District 16 at-large

6. South Plantation (6-2, 218): District 14 champions

7. Piper (5-3, 224): District 13 co-leader, can clinch with win over Monarch

8. South Broward (3-5, 277): District 14 at-large

On the cusp: Cooper City (5-3, 278), Nova (3-5, 322).

CLASS 5A

2. St. Thomas Aquinas (7-1, 45): District 15 champions

3. Mater Academy (7-1, 81): District 16 champions

4. Coconut Creek (6-2, 96): District 14 at-large

5. Stuart Martin County (6-2, 120): District 13 leader, can clinch with win over Palm Bay Heritage

6. McArthur (6-2, 128): District 15 at-large

7. North Miami (6-3, 177): District 16 at-large

2. American Heritage (4-4, 52): District 15 at-large, needs win and McCarthy loss to clinch district title on power ranking tiebreaker

3. Dillard (8-0, 78): District 14 champions

4. Jensen Beach (7-1, 87): District 13 champions

5. Plantation (5-3, 110): District 15 at-large

6. Norland (4-5, 115): District 15 at-large

7. Fort Pierce John Carroll (6-2, 127): District 13 at-large

8. Hialeah (6-3, 186): District 16 champions

2. Central (6-1, 46): District 15 co-leader, can clinch district title with win over Somerset Academy.

3. Naples Lely (5-3, 141): District 14 champions

4. Key West (5-3, 142): District 16 at-large

5. Fort Myers Cypress Lake (5-3, 194): District 13 leader, can clinch with win over Lemon Bay

6. Estero (5-3, 223): District 13 at-large

7. St. Brendan (4-4, 255): District 16 at-large

8. Somerset Academy (4-4, 270): District 15 co-leader, can clinch district title with win over Central.

On the cusp: Englewood Lemon Bay (3-5, 355).

CLASS 2A

2. True North (5-2, 51): District 15 co-leader, can clinch with wins over Westminster Christian (Friday) and Archbishop Carroll (Nov. 3).

4. Archbishop Carroll (6-0-1, 134): District 15 co-leader, can clinch with win over True North (Nov. 3).

5. Edison (3-4, 162): District 14 at-large
