Miami Herald Athlete of the Week 6: Daniela Hernandez of Carrollton cross-country

Daniela Hernandez of the Carrollton girls’ cross-country team is the Miami Herald Athlete of the Week for Week 6.

The junior finished first of 278 runners in the girls’ 1A-2A race at the Spanish River Cross-Country Invitational in Boca Raton. Her winning 3.1-mile time was 18 minutes 42 second, leading the Cyclones to second of 14 teams in 2A. This marks the second time she’s won this race, and she was the runner-up last season.

Other nominees were: Adrian Iziliaev, Gulliver Prep cross-country; Destiny Wiggins, North Broward Prep volleyball; Axel Monssoh, Ransom Everglades golf; Claire Chanon, Cardinal GIbbons cross-country; Wills Gillis, North Broward Prep cross-country; Matthew Gonzalez, Belen Jesuit golf; Noelle Richardson, Westminster Academy cross-country; Jacob Ellis, Coral Gables swimming; Christian Cancio, Coral Park bowling.
