Cross-country

The Belen boys’ cross-country team faced its toughest challenge of the season at the Southern Showcase Invitational in Huntsville, Alabama. The 5K featured many of the top teams and individuals from across the Southeast.

Marcelo Mantecon, a junior, went out with the front pack at a blistering 4:35 opening mile, staying patient as others faded from the fast pace. By the two-mile mark, the lead pack had thinned, and Mantecon surged ahead to take control of the race. He never looked back, crossing the finish line in a meet-record 14 minutes 35 seconds—a personal best, the fastest time in Florida history and the win.
