Poll: Vote for the Miami Herald High School Athlete of the Week (3)

This week, we continue a feature from last season where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week (in Broward and Miami-Dade counties). The school season is underway for 2025-26, and this week features nominees from high school bowling, cross-country, football, golf, swimming, and volleyball.

Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Sept. 18 at around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.

Julieta Baudini, Doral Academy cross-country: the senior placed 24th of 345 runners in 19:46 at the Florida Horse Park Invitational in Ocala. She helped the Firebirds finish fourth of 53 teams.

Duron Blash, Krop bowling: had a 212 high game and a 569 high series in a win over Hialeah Gardens and a high game 206 and high series 565 in a win over Belen Jesuit for the 2-0 Lightning.

Sophia Broche, Florida Christian School volleyball: the freshman setter combined for 78 assists in victories over Carrollton (3 sets) and Riviera Prep (4 sets) as the Patriots improved to 6-0.

Marcelo Carrion, Archbishop Carroll football: the sophomore had 129 yards on 17 carries and 2 touchdowns to help the Bulldogs defeat Miami SmartEn Academy.

Armando Cruz, Belen Jesuit cross-country: the senior was second of 420 runners in 15:24 at the Florida Horse Park Invitational in Ocala to help the Wolverines win the team title there for the seventh consecutive time.

Sofia Dean, LaSalle volleyball: the senior setter recorded 4 aces, 1 kill, 20 assists and 5 digs in a 3-set win over Plantation American Heirtage as the Royal Lions improved to 4-1.

Daniel Gutierrez, St. Brendan swimming: the junior was first in the 200 free against Doral Academy and third in the 200 free and 100 breast against MAST Academy and Downtown Doral. Also third in the boys’ 400 free relay.

Sohan Patel, American Heritage golf: the junior won the 42nd annual Morrison Invitational High School Golf Tournament at the Pompano Beach Golf Club for the second consecutive time. He shot an impressive 9-under par 63.

Rashawn Viart, Ferguson bowling: the senior bowled a perfect game -- 300 -- for the first time in his bowling career as the Falcons improved to 5-0 with a win over Barbara Goleman. He also recorded the high series at 731. He also had a high game 224 in a win over Miami Plametto and a high game 246 and high series 658 in a win over Cutler Bay.
