The Miami True North football team displayed its fire power on offense against Hialeah, and the defense locked down the T-Breds in the second half en route to a 49-33 victory.

Quarterback Zachary Katz, a junior, helped lead the offense, and George Harris, another junior, excelled on defense.

True North next travles to Sarasota to play Cardinal Mooney.

The 2025 Preseason MaxPreps Sophomore All-America Football Team includes several local players.

First Team Offense:

QB Neimann Lawrence, Northwestern (Miami) Height: 6-2 | Weight: 195 Threw for 2,777 yards and 31 touchdowns last season at Ransom Everglades (Miami).

TE Peter Pierre, Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) Height: 6-4 | Weight: 210 Expect a breakout sophomore campaign for the big-bodied playmaker.

Second Team Offense:

WR Tromon Isaac Jr., Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) Height: 5-11 | Weight: 170 Recorded 30 receptions for 743 yards and seven scores at Western (Davie.) last season.

First Team Defense:

LB Steven Moore, Central (Miami) Height: 6-1 | Weight: 215 The Rockets should be one of the best teams in Florida and Moore will be one of the leaders.

DB Quartavius Lyons Jr., Central (Miami) Height: 6-1 | Weight: 180 Should make a big impact for the Rockets after transferring over from South Dade (Homestead)

AP Amir Sears, West Broward (Pembroke Pines) Height: 6-1 | Weight: 175 Two-way standout is one of the most talented players in the Sunshine State regardless of class.

Volleyball

Miami Doral Academy volleyball opened the season defeating Miami Monsignor Pace 25-16, 25-22, 25-18.

Top performers were Amy Smith 27 assists, 4 digs; Daniela Aguilar 12 digs, 24 receptions, 1 ace; and Marcela Carmona 10 kills, 6 digs, 7 aces.

In its opener, Miami LaSalle defeated Mater Brickell Academy 25-22, 25-21, 25-15.

Top performers were Mia Groom 3 aces, 3 kills, 10 blocks, 3 digs; Sara Moreno 7 kills, 7 digs; and Emma Beltran 4 kills, 1 block, 1 assist.

Golf

Ransom Everglades and Florida Christian tied at 152 in boys’ golf at Granada Golf Course (par 36).

PJ Clingon of Ransom Everglades took medalist honors with 36. Matteo Bloom (RE) and Christopher Caso Jr, (FC) tied for second at 37. Matthew Puntikov (RE), Kalani Centeno (FC) and Matthew Hernandez (FC) each shot 38.

Hockey

The Golden Wolves ice hockey team, based at Pines Icre Arena in Pembroke Pines, is gearing for more prominence, after winning the 2025 Chipotle-USA Hockey 16U Tier II 3A National Championship at The Ice Vault in Wayne, New Jersey.

History made, it marks the first Florida team to win a 3A national championship.

Juan Sebastian Ibarra (Gulliver Prep) and Cristian Paz (Columbus) are two members from Miami on that historic championship team. They’ve been friends 10 years, competing together during that time, which includes playing for the Miami Toros in Kendall.

In the championship game in New Jersey, the Golden Wolves defeated Ashburn Xtreme (Virginia) 4-1. Paz scored two big goals, including a short-handed goal to give the locals a 2-0 lead in the second period. His second goal gave the Golen Wolves a 3-1 advantage in the second period. Paz finished the tournament with a team-high five goals.

The Golden Wolves went 5-1 in the five-day tournament, also defeating the Texas Tigers 4-1; Montgomery Ice Devils (Maryland) 6-0; New Jersey Bandits 4-1; and Littletown Hawks (Colorado) 5-0. Their lone loss was in their first game against Naperville Sabres (Illinois) 2-1.

Aside from being a member of the Golden Wolves, Paz is in the Mas honors academic program at Columbus High School. He’s involved in campus ministry as a peer leader and is also an officer in LINK, a school club that focuses on raising awareness and bringing exclusivity to special needs children. This is a passion for Paz as he has a younger brother with Down Syndrome.

During the summer, Paz traveled to upstate New York to facilitate a retreat for special needs kids. Lastly, one of his goals was to bring ice hockey to Columbus High School, which he did, debuting in 2024 as a club sport.

A two-sport athlete, Ibarra was the goalie for the 2024 FHSAA state champion Gulliver Prep water polo team. He was recently selected to compete for the Swedish U18 national water polo team and will play in the Nordic Championships in Finland in late November.

An IB honor student, Ibarra is in the Gulliver Prep jazz band, playing baritone saxophone. He is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. He is the founder of the Catholic student union at Gulliver Prep and has worked many summers with Obras Sociales in Guatemala, helping disabled people (young and old).
