The Westminster Christian Warriors beach volleyball team came up short of winning its first state championship.

In the Class 1A state final, the Warriors lost to Tampa’s Berkeley Prep, 3-0, on Saturday morning at Tallahassee.

The FHSAA started sanctioning official state tournaments in beach volleyball in 2022, and, since then, this was the first championship for Berkeley Prep (22-0).

Westminster Christian has never won state, finishing second in 2023 and now in 2025.

“Berkeley Prep is good,” Westminster Christian coach Sylvia Guso said on Saturday. “They were the better team today.”

The Warriors, who entered Saturday as the top-ranked team in the state regardless of class, finished its season with an 18-1 record.

“We had a great season, going undefeated until today,” Guso said. “But it sucks to lose.”
