Westminster Christian goes 4-0 at softball tournament. Plus Western boys’ volleyball and more

The Westminster Christian softball team went 4-0 to win the Doc4Life High School Softball Tournament in Ocala.

The Warriors (11-6-1) edged Crystal River 1-0 and beat Ocala Lake Weir 13-3. They then edged Lakeland George Jenkins 4-3 in eight innings and ended the two-day event with a 14-3 victory over St. Johns Creekside.

Carrollton softball, led by senior pitcher Madelyn Althage, is now 9-3, after two more wins. Homestead improved to 5-2.

Boys’ volleyball

Freshman setter Dexter Spears is having a solid debut high school season for the Davie Western boys’ volleyball team.

He has 329 assists, 16 aces, 13 kills, 30 blocks, and 88 digs. Older brother, Max, a junior outside hitter, has 142 kills, 26 blocks, 12 aces, 122 digs, 11 assists, 175 serve received.

The Spears siblings have helped lead the Wildcats to a 9-2 record, with wins over West Broward, West Boca Raton, Cooper City, Fort Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach, Parkland Stoneman Douglas, Pembroke Pines Flanagan, Pompano Beach, and Pembroke Pines Charter. Their two losses are to Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons and Weston Cypress Bay.

Miami Columbus is 17-2, and Doral Reagan is 13-1. Also, Homestead won, getting closer to .500.
