Results are in. Westminster Christian basketball standout voted Miami Herald High School Athlete of the Week

Miami Westminster Christian girls’ basketball player Angie Fernandez is the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

The sophomore reached 1,000 career points with 28 points in a 58-23 win over Miami St. Brendan. With 1,027 career points (and counting) in three seasons, she is the first sophomore in Westminster Christian girls’ basketball history to do so.

Gianna Vazquez, Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy soccer; Elena Gonzalez, Miami LaSalle cheerleading; Vanessa Bu-Nassar, Miami St. Brendan cheerleading; London Gill, Miami Palmetto soccer; Drake Sandi, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas basketball; Anthony Pasto, Miami Ferguson soccer; Rayne Archuleta, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas soccer; Nykeria Flowers, Oakland Park Northeast basketball; and Fernando Carrasco, Miami Mater Lakes Academy soccer; rounded out the nominees.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week poll opens Sunday every week and closes around 10 p.m. Thursday.
