Parkland Stoneman Douglas wrestling qualified for its first state duals by winning districts and sub-regionals.

In the region final at state in Class 3A in Kissimmee on Friday at Osceola High School, the Eagles ran into powerhouse South Dade, which eliminated Douglas en route to winning two more team vs. team matches for its seventh state duals title, a state record.

While the Buccaneers were setting a record on Saturday, Douglas remained in Kissimmee, competing in another tournament -- the Storm Front Duals at Celebration High School -- and winning.

The Eagles, coached by Kenny Gendason, went 4-0 defeating Sarasota Military Academy, Cypress Creek, Cocoa Beach and Key West for that title. David Leiva (34-0), Rocco Duygulu (34-3), Jackson Zajkowski (32-8), Timothy Carroll (26-5), Keegan Lake (34-4), and Lucas Siqueira (22-5) were unbeaten at that event to help lead Douglas.

Notes:

Key West also qualified for state duals but was eliminated on Friday in the region final by Miami Mater Lakes Academy, which won the Class 1A state duals title.

Leiva was the only wrestler from Douglas to record a win over powerhouse South Dade in the region finals at state duals.

State duals story will run/post later this week.
