Coach Faber to be inducted into Cardinal Gibbons Hall of Fame. Plus basketball and soccer info

Former Cardinal Gibbons coach Todd Faber, who is also a school ambassador and inspiration, will be inducted into the school’s hall of fame posthumously.

After a hard-fought battle, Faber recently died from cancer. Prior, he was already announced as one the inductees for the special hall of fame ceremony at the school’s Louise Crocco Gymnasium on Feb. 1 in Fort Lauderdale.

Faber, 60, was well respected at the school and in South Florida, especially in Broward County high school basketball circles, coaching the Cardinal Gibbons girls’ basketball team.

He retired from coaching in 1999, but he left quite a legacy, leading the Cardinal Gibbons girls’ basketball team to more than 200 wins, two district titles, two regional titles and two trips to the FHSAA State Girls’ Basketball Finals.

More important than his wins and championships, Faber empowered his student-athletes to be confident, strong leaders, who continue to model those character traits and skills developed under his mentorship.

Faber’s teams won more than 20 games five times in 13 seasons. Even as a dad and husband, he never stopped being a coach. He watched countless Cardinal Gibbons basketball, football and volleyball games, always thinking what he would do, if he were coaching.

NOTE: The wake for Coach Faber is 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home, 4061 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale, 33308. A mass is 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at St. Coleman Catholic Church, 1200 S. Federal Hwy., Pompano Beach 33062.
