Poll: Who should be the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week? (Jan. 20)
South Florida’s top athletes were recognized recently in the sports of basketball and soccer.
This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week from basketball and soccer in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Jan. 23, around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.

▪ Allison Aleman, Plantation American Heritage soccer: the junior assisted the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Parkland Stoneman Douglas and had 1 goal in a 8-0 win over West Boca.
▪ Mikayla Brown, Miami Gulliver Prep basketball: the sophomore, who is averaging a double-double this season, had 27 points and 16 rebounds in a 44-41 overtime win against Westminster Christian; 31 points in a 54-43 loss to Coconut Creek North Broward Prep; and 37 points and 8 rebounds in a 54-33 win against Miami Ransom Everglades.
▪ Gianna Gray, Miami Lourdes soccer: the freshman had 2 goals in the 5-1 win against Miami Doral Academy and 1 goal and 1 assist in the 3-1 win against Miami Palmetto.
▪ Raul Leyva, Davie NSU University soccer: the junior had 5 goals and 1 assist in an 8-0 win over Boca Raton St. Andrew’s and 1 goal in a 4-2 win over Orlando Lake Highland Prep.
▪ Makayla Midgett, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons basketball: the junior had 6 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals in a win over Pompano Beach on Senior Night. Prior, she had 7 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals in a win over Piper.
▪ Orlando Roche, Miami Belen basketball: the sophomore had 27 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals in a 78-50 win over Miami Southridge and 12 points, 2 assists and 3 rebounds in a 61-40 loss to Miami High.
▪ Drake Sandi, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas basketball: the junior had 20 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block in a 79-77 double overtime win over Pompano Blanche Ely.
▪ Boosie Swan, Miami True North basketball: the junior had 19 points, 3 rebounds and 4 steals in a 53-50 win over Miami Doral Academy and 19 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals in a 72-62 win over Miami Divine Savior.
